<Mr. Gumpy's Outing>에 이은 두번째 검피 아저씨 이야기. 간결한 문장과 친숙한 그림이 여전히 매력적이다.
검피 아저씨가 드라이브를 하려고 차를 몰고 나오자 동네 꼬마들이 몰려나와 함께 차를 타고 들판으로 나간다. 토끼, 고양이, 개, 돼지, 양, 닭, 송아지, 염소와도 동행한다. 갑작스런 비가 오면서 검피 아저씨는 누군가 차를 밀어줄 것을 부탁하지만, 아이들과 동물들은 서로 미루기만 한다. 잠시 후 힘겹게 언덕을 올라가던 차가 멈추고 만다.
Mr Gumpy is going out for a drive in his motor car, but the children, the rabbit, the cat, the dog, the pig, the sheep, the chickens, the calf and the goat all want to come along, too. All is well until the rain pours down, the wheels start to spin on the muddy track and Mr Gumpy's companions all find excuses not to get out and push the car...
